Lahore Zoo is launching a mobile app to educate visitors

In the near future, visiting Lahore Zoo would be far more educating than entertaining it is now.

With the aim of transforming the Lahore Zoo into a digital learning facility, Lahore Zoo administration has partnered with LUMS and Nestle to launch ‘Lahore Zoo Mobile App’. The mobile app is currently being developed by a multi-national company — Computer-Human Interaction and Social Experience Lab (CHISEL) at LUMS and will be shortly available on both Apple and Android stores.

The project lead for this mobile app, Dr. Suleman Shahid is currently an assistant professor at Lahore University of Management Sciences’ computer science department. Zoo administration recently also held a press conference regarding this project and briefed local media outlets about the digital plans for the Zoo.

The Lahore Zoo app will comprise of various educational and useful features. These include a map of the zoo, an interactive games option for kids’ learning and a QR code reader on the information boards of animals’ cages. These features will provide extensive information about the animals housed at the zoo.

Moreover, the App also aims to tackle a problem i.e. low adoption rates at the zoo; the App will provide information on the animals ready for adoption and info about the financial aid needed to feed and look after them.

This initiative will help encourage adoption of animals both locally and internationally and will certainly help sustain the zoo. The information on the App will be available in both English and Urdu. The app will be available for users within the next few months.
