KPK Police to go digital

The acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Syed Akhtar Ali Shah has announced that a paperless management system will be introduced in KP Police Stations and police mobiles will also be connected to the internet.

He said that efforts in this regard are underway and the use of paper will be minimized in KP’s police stations soon. IG told Geo News,

“Negotiations in this regard have already taken place with the managing director (MD) of Information Technology Board. A paperless management information system will be created for central police office Peshawar… All police stations in KP will also be shifted to computerized processes… 26 registers per day will be digitized on a daily basis and made accessible to all relevant departments.”

IG added that the computerized system will reduce complications in processes such as procurement, budgeting, accounts, inventory, and file movement. An information management system will be established in the central police office to monitor the activities. The citizens will also be able to observe police’s performance through the online portal.

Furthermore, a decision has been taken to equip the police mobiles in the province with the internet and tablets with the updated criminal records and other information. This will enable police officials to see records of criminals in their vehicles.

It is to be noted here that earlier this month, Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), in collaboration with Punjab Police, successfully introduced the digital system in all 712 police stations of Punjab. With an automated system, modern Criminal Record Offices were set up in all 36 districts of Punjab. Also, latest CCTV cameras and other equipment were installed at the Risala Police Station in Karachi, Sindh, a couple of days ago.
