KP govt installs first IoT-based air quality monitoring gadget in Peshawar

In its move to fight air pollution in Peshawar, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has installed Pakistan’s first Internet of Things (IoT) based air quality monitoring gadget at District Nazim office in Peshawar. The innovative gadget is specifically designed to detect toxic elements present in the air.

The announcement about the installation of the device was first made on Twitter by Kamran Khan Bangash, who is a special assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Science, Technology and IT (ST&IT).

Kamran Khan has tweeted that this is a “novelty step towards a better healthier Peshawar” and technology-driven Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that gadget is greatly helpful in sensing humidity, dust, temperature, and carbon dioxide levels in the air surrounding our atmosphere.

Moreover, as affirmed by CM’s assistant, the device installed at Nazim’s office Peshawar also allows environmental experts to “devise pragmatic solutions” to effectively cleanse the atmosphere.

Gadgets like these have special sensors to check major air components to monitor air quality. In the past, these sensors were quite expensive, however, now the technological advancements have made them more affordable and available all across the world. These gadgets are also useful in a way that they help bring attention to environmental issues beyond the scope of the human eye.
