KickassTorrents site resurfaces through unofficial clones

Yesterday, the founder and operator of KickassTorrents (KAT), the world’s most popular torrent site, was arrested by the US authorities. Today, numerous clones and mirrors of the site have resurfaced. In the past, the US authorities have tried to campaign against the former top torrent site, The Pirate Bay, as well. However, it has always been observed that it is almost impossible to keep a good piracy website down for a long time.

Currently, there are two unofficial mirrors of KickassTorrents available on the internet. One of these has been created by the IsoHunt (another online torrent site). The link for this mirror is kickasstorrents.website. However, this is a relatively limited mirror with torrents from 6 months ago (or older) only. The other mirror is located at KAT.am that has been discovered by The Verge.

The creators of the KAT.am mirror had emailed a statement to The Verge stating that the KickassTorrents website was “hosted on multiple cloud servers to prevent blockade, and the hosting information is well hidden behind Cloudflare.” The owners of the mirror said that they had not only recovered the original site but they had also added a mobile version, something that was missing in the original KickassTorrents website. They further added that the website “has the complete torrent database of KAT, including the comments, user information intact.”

Writer’s note: At the time of writing, the KAT.am was not working properly, however, the kickasstorrents.website was operational. Disclaimer: We, here at TechJuice, don’t support any illegal downloads.
