IBA’s annual IT Olympiad, ProBattle, concluded on the 17th of April, Sunday, after attracting almost 850 participants from all over Karachi. Being a student of Bachelors in Computer Sciences at IBA, our writer – Rehan Ahmed – was on site to cover the event as a part of a Media Partnership between ProBattle and TechJuice.
The 3-day event arranged by the university’s Computer Science society is one of the biggest tech-focused university events of Pakistan and plays host to a number of student gurus in the fields of programming, data designing, web development, FIFA, Counter Strike and a lot more. This time, the event consisted of a total of 18 competitions and a prize money of 500,000 rupees, bringing in teams from a number of universities as well as colleges and schools.

Karachi University’s Umaer Basha Institute of Information Technology (UBIT), with the most number of winner and runner-up awards, was awarded the final trophy of ProBattle16. This is the third year in a row that UBIT has won it, solidifying its spot as one of the leading IT universities in Pakistan. Their’s were also the loudest cheers in the prize distribution ceremony held on Sunday as they took over the stage to celebrate their win.
Ripe with excitement, the competition also played host to a number of exceptional young talents. One mention-worthy highlight of the event was a group of students from Grade 6 and 7 who managed to beat out all the other competitors including college graduates in the RoboWars Mindstorm competition, arranged by a small young robotics startups called “Stemers”.
