iPhone7 Rumor Roundup: 6 things to expect

It’s that time of the year at last, iPhone7 is launching. Some people are excited, while some don’t care but the rumor mill is going out of our hands. No matter which part of the spectrum you belong to, there is always a lot of buzz about the flagship smartphone of Apple, every year!

Apple usually keeps a tight lip on what is happening in their hardware department. However, when you have a product as successful as an iPhone, leaks and rumors float.

And at this point as well, we have a pretty good idea of what is to be unveiled on September 7th. So dear readers, brace yourselves as we look at some of the anticipated features of iPhone.

1. Removal of Headphone Jack

This change has been for a long time coming in new phones and audio devices. Despite numerous improvements in the digital audio department, hardware side has been limited due to the ancient 3.5 mm audio jack.

With the introduction of lightning port, which makes way for high-speed data transfers, it is only a matter of time when Apple bids farewell to this relic of past technology and moves on to greater things.

Rumor has it that iPhone 7 will be the first Apple device to take this step. Although it may make a lot of people angry and we have witnessed that in the past, it is actually a step in the right direction. It will promote wireless audio technology which will encourage hardware developers to think outside the box.

2. More Color Options

Who did not see this coming? Everyone knew more colors were coming when they tried passing a suspiciously pink iPhone as a “rose gold” edition. This year’s iPhone, thankfully, is rumored to have a space black and a piano black and blue (which seems to be a glossier space black) variant in store for people who prefer something more elegant to carry around.

3. IPX7 Water Resistance

Taking queues from its watch department, Apple is all set to introduce IPX7 water resistance in this year’s iPhone. While it means that your new iPhone will be able to withstand a heavy downpour without breaking any sweat, it might not be able to protect itself from encroaching dust and sand particles.

So, once your phone is wet avoid giving it a sand bath right away.

4. Dual Lens Camera

New iPhone is also rumored to sport a dual lens camera setup on its plus variant. This may allow for better zooming and focusing. And in order to compensate the heavy duty processing of images, iPhone7 Plus is rumored to have 3GB of RAM instead of 2GB in current models.

5. Storage Space Upgrades

Whoever has owned a 16 GB iPhone knows the pain of constantly shuffling photos, music and apps to make room for new stuff. Google has been taking jibe at Apple because of limited storage space.
But this time, Apple is expected to increase the base storage model from 32GB instead of 16GB. It will be accompanied by 64, 128 and 256 GB variants.

6. One More Thing…

Some other small changes expected to debut this year are:

  • Wider color-gamut as seen in last year’s iPad pro.
  • Removal of tactile home button in favor 3-d touch supported pressure sensitive home button.
  • Upgraded rear flash for more natural color tone.
  • Better proximity sensor with incorporation with laser assisted detection to improve speed and accuracy.

This is almost a similar story each year. There is a lot of speculation and suggestions on what needs to be introduced in the next model of iPhone. Although all rumors and leaks do not always come true, it is fun to fill the time between the release of next iPhone with such speculations which keep us guessing their validity. It’s not long before we will be able to see the new iPhone, until then savor on these rumors and I will be back again on the launch date of iPhone7 to give you all the official updates!
