One of Apple’s three 2017 flagships is causing problems already.
After being unveiled at the Apple Keynote event on September 12, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus arrived in Apple stores around the world a week later and some early birds have already got their hands on them. But turns out things are going that well for them.
Taiwanese and Chinese media have reported that a woman’s 64GB rose gold iPhone 8 Plus cracked open mid-charge. After putting the phone on charging, using the cable and adapter that came with it, the phone’s screen began to bulge within three minutes and then completely separated from the rest of the body. The issue occurred less than five days after she purchased the phone and has now been dispatched to Apple for analysis.
However, this woman wasn’t the only one to come forth. A similar iPhone 8 Plus complaint was filed by a Japanese person who said his phone arrived with the screen clearly detached from the body.
An interesting thing to note here is that the iPhone 8 Plus uses a battery manufactured by the same company who provided batteries for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Yeah, that phone. The one which kept bursting into flames and then Samsung had to discontinue it.
However, it should be kept in mind that these are just two reports and don’t necessarily mean all iPhone 8 Plus phones will crack open. But Apple is yet to issue an official statement on these cases.
