iOS 11 allows one device to easily share WiFi with others

Apple announced the upcoming software update for iPhones, iPads, and iPods a few days ago during World Wide Developer’s conference. Dubbed as iOS 11, the update to the popular operating system will come with many handy new features. It will be available for users to download and install later this year in fall.

One of the most useful new features it comes with is the ability to wirelessly share the credentials of a WiFi network from one iOS device to another iOS device.

The feature works as seamlessly as connecting a pair of AirPods to a device. If there is a WiFi network in a given area and one iOS 11 device is already connected to it, this connected device can share the WiFi password with the new device with ease.

Say an iPad running iOS 11 is already connected to the network and a new iOS 11 device such as an iPhone needs to connect to the same network. When the iPhone tries to connect to the network, the normal field for entering a password will be shown. When the iPhone is brought closer to the connected iPad (without even touching it), a prompt will indicate on the iPad that an iPhone wants to connect to the WiFi network. It will also offer the iPad a chance to share the password for the WiFi network with this new device. If the password is shared, it will immediately be filled on the iPhone. Just like that, the iPhone can also now connect to the WiFi network.

While it is a feature most users will need only a few times, it is still very handy given that one will not need to check the router for the password each time they need to connect a new device.

iOS 11 will come with lots of features which will make the iPhone and iPad even easier to use. Besides the WiFi sharing feature, the operating system will bring the drag and drop feature found in desktop operating systems such as Windows and MacOS. Other handy features include an automatic login to new devices simply by bringing it close to a Mac or other iOS 11 devices.
