Intel, the leading technology giant, today announced at the Computex Taipei that it would be introducing its first ever 10-core processor, the Core i7-6950X. The company announced a new range of Extreme Edition processors with the highlight being the 3 GHz deca-core processor capable of handling up to 20 threads simultaneously. This series has been code-named Broadwell-E.
The multinational justifies this powerhouse processor with the concept of ‘mega-tasking’. According to Intel, we can imagine this concept by assuming a gamer playing at 4K resolution while recording and streaming his game-play at 1080p at the same time. This shows how powerful this chip-set from Intel will be. The additional processor cores make CPU-intensive tasks much easier through parallel processing.
According to Intel’s statistics, these new Extreme Editions chips will be able to perform 35% faster in 3D rendering, 20% faster in video trans-coding in HandBrake, and 25% in video editing in Adobe Premiere when compared to Intel’s previous flagship chip from the Broadwell series.
Within this series, the most expensive chip is the 3 GHz deca-core Core i7-6950X processor priced at $1,723 while the most affordable chip is the 3.4 GHz Core i7-6800K priced at $434. All processors of this series by Intel will come unlocked that means you can overclock and tune your processor according to your requirements.
If you’re a fan of virtual reality gaming or your workload meets the ‘mega-tasking’ requirements mentioned earlier in this article, we recommend you buy an Intel Broadwell-E processor.
