Instagram’s new tool will prevent phishing attacks

After a recent wave of phishing attacks on social media networks, Facebook has introduced a tool to prevent a data breach on Instagram. The feature will help users to check if the email was sent by Instagram or it is a hacker’s scam.

With this new feature, Instagram is trying to defeat the new strategy of Hackers in which they use the company’s name to make it look legitimate. It became very easy to make people fool with the use of the logo of the company. Phishing emails seek you to click on a link and then they steal your personal information.

Now if you receive an email from Instagram and you are not sure if it is real or not, you can just check it by going into your account settings, and visiting the ‘Emails from Instagram’ tab to get a list of all the official email sent to you by Instagram correspondence.

On the release of this new feature, Instagram said, “Bad actors are getting better at imitating emails from Instagram, and it is becoming increasingly difficult for people to distinguish between a genuine email and a fake one.” It added, “We discourage people from clicking a link in an email that claims to be from Instagram if they can’t confirm we sent it. If someone accidentally clicks a suspicious link, they can request to secure their account here

Instagram will divide emails into two categories; “security emails” and “other.” If there are emails in those categories then you can be sure that they are legitimate, but if you don’t then they could be phishing scams. Instagram would show emails the company has sent you over the last 14 days. The feature is rolling out in a new update.

Instagram has also tested few new features in recent days, it had decided to bring dark mode in the mobile application and also tested a new feature that will allow you to share group stories with members of a group message thread.
