According to a new report, Instagram is testing an application which will let a user share his/her social media updates with close and intimate friends.
Reportedly being named ‘Threads’, the application would allow “constant, intimate” sharing by users with individuals who are in their close and intimate circles. The application, which was first pointed out by The Verge, seemingly aims to compete with Snapchat and is trying to assimilate features that are present on Snapchat. The application would allow users to share updates like their speed, current location and battery statuses. These details would be shared with the individual close friends or the entire close friends’ list as chosen by the user.
“Screenshots reviewed by The Verge show an app that’s designed to promote constant, automatic sharing between users and the people on their “close friends” list on Instagram. Opt in to automatic sharing, and Threads will regularly update your status, giving your friends a real-time view of information about your location, speed, and more,“ The Verge writes.
The Threads application will also come with Instagram’s content creation tools which the users currently enjoy in the Instagram Stories option. The tech media outlet, The Verge, reported that the “Threads” application was currently being tested internally by the social media giant. There is currently no update as to when the application would be rolled out to its users, if it does. The application was reportedly in its testing phase currently.
Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, had earlier announced that he saw the future of social media in close intimate sharing. “The future of Facebook is in private messaging” he mentioned. Facebook is already battling data privacy woes besetting the social media giant.
