Instagram, photo-centric social media app owned by Facebook, has just introduced two exciting new features to help restrict cyberbullying across its platform. The first feature uses AI to flag comments which seem offensive. Interestingly, the comments themselves will be asked, “Are you sure you want to post this?” – and they’ll be shown an option button to “undo” their comment.
Instagram is working to develop artificial intelligence algorithms which will be capable of rooting out complex behaviors — ranging from identity attacks to betrayals — that make users feel victimized on its platform. The company detailed the features in a blog post stating;
“From early tests of this feature, we have found that it encourages some people to undo their comment and share something less hurtful once they have had a chance to reflect. This intervention gives people a chance to reflect and undo their comment and prevents the recipient from receiving a harmful comment notification.”
As you know that cyberbullying is one of the biggest problems people face on social networks and Instagram’s new feature will be aimed to prevent haters to ruin your posts. The company has stated that it can “do more to prevent bullying from happening”, so its new tools will help users respond to bullying on Instagram.
Instagram believes that young people are more reluctant to block, unfollow, or report people fearing that doing so would further escalate the issue. So, the company developed this feature, which provides users with more control over their Instagram experience, but “without notifying someone who may be targeting them”.
