Indian IT Minister Announced A New Date For The Release Of 5G In India

India is all set to launch the 5G internet in some regions of the country as the auction and all the arrangements are done. India will be one of the first countries behind China and Korea to launch 5G in the country and it would benefit other countries in the region like Pakistan and Bangladesh who can also follow in India’s foot-step.

The IT minister confirmed in an interview that the date will be the 12th of October this year. Though the date has been postponed multiple times, this is expected to be the final call. He said;

“We are planning to roll out 5G services rapidly. The telecom operators are working in that regard and installations are being done. Hopefully, we should be launching 5G services by October 12 and then further scale up in cities and towns. We will ensure that it remains affordable. The industry is focusing on both urban as well as rural areas.”

India’s Prime Minister has also mentioned the importance of 5G and other incoming innovations of tech in India. In their independence day speech he said;

“India’s techade is here! With 5G, semiconductor manufacturing & Optical Fibre Cable (OFCs) in villages, we are bringing a revolution through Digital India to the grassroots level,”

Just like the 4G services that were rolled out in a phased manner, the 5G services will also happen gradually with certain cities getting it first. The service will be rolled out in these 13 cities first-

  • Ahmedabad
  • Bengaluru
  • Chandigarh
  • Chennai
  • Delhi
  • Gandhinagar
  • Gurugram
  • Hyderabad
  • Jamnagar
  • Kolkata
  • Lucknow
  • Mumbai

These cities will not necessarily have 5G internet all over, but certain parts of the cities will be tested with the network, and then the rest of the area followed by the whole country.

Airtel and Jio were the telecoms expected to release the 5th generation network but with the recent updates, Airtel will be the one leading the course and Jio will ultimately follow along. Everyone in the country is excited about the improved latency and speed of the upcoming times with 5G which can have infinite use-cases in all fields. Not just IT but agriculture, medicine, and others can also be improved by the commercialization of 5G.
