Improved Grace Marks Policy for Matric and Intermediate Students

The Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) has introduced a new grading system, increasing the passing score from 33 to 40 and raising the grace marks from 3 to 5.

Hence, just like before, if a student got 30 marks, the checker may “just pass” them with three marks; however, now, the grader can offer five grace marks to get the candidate up to pass status.

The decision will be implemented nationwide beginning with the 2025 matriculation and intermediate exam results.

It was decided on Monday, the first day of an IBCC meeting that included the chairs of education boards from all over the country, as well as the executive director of IBCC, Ghulam Ali Mallah, and the education officers from all four provinces.

An education board proposed increasing grace marks for matric and intermediate levels to seven. However, the idea faced opposition from most attendees, leading to a decision to raise the grace marks from three to five. These marks can be applied to a maximum of two subjects but will not be valid if the candidate fails in a third subject.

Standard For Exams

In addition, the panel went over the latest developments with the Model Assessment Framework (MAF), a project whose goal is to standardize nationwide examinations. It was also agreed upon at the meeting to create a digital question item bank.

The forum made significant decisions to provide equal educational opportunities, according to the IBCC statement. These include approving a fee waiver for students who are orphans and suggesting that an “orphan status” box be added to the test form. The conference also covered the topic of coordinating the admissions processes for dental and medical schools. There was an agreement amongst the provinces to hold the tests in March or April and release the results in June or July.
