ICC World Cup 2015 to make history with cutting edge 4K technology

Cricket is about to become excited for the fans all around the world. For the first time ever, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will be covered in the High Definition (HD) format using the cutting edge 4K technology. Star Sports will produce the live coverage of seven matches in 4K including the semi-finals, final and four warm-up matches of the tournament.

Around 2.5 billion people will have access to the live coverage of the world cup from over 200 territories around the world. Audiences will get the spell binding experience through 29 cameras covering the match from all angles through technology such as Ultra-motion cameras, Spider-cam and drone cameras.

What is 4K technology? 4K refers to a high pixel density video with a resolution of 4096×2160 as compared to other formats with resolutions lower than 4K. This HDTV technology was released in 2011 promising to offer high resolution, more realistic colors and higher frame rates. The increased resolution delivers the sharpest picture at nearly the same clarity as in digital movie theaters. You can see the difference between the two formats in the image below.

The image below compares the four resolutions: standard definition; full high definition, Quad HD and 4K.

ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said:

“We expect the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 to be the most viewed cricket event in the history of the game. With a great line up of commentators and innovative features, it promises to be an event to remember and the biggest and greatest sporting event anywhere in the world this year.”

We hope that our team reaches the semi-finals or final of the World Cup 2014 to make 4K experience even more enjoyable. Fingers crossed! Share your viewpoints in the comment section below.
