Huawei’s upcoming chipset rumored to have double the power of existing flagship

Huawei comes within the list of the top smartphone manufacturers of the world and accordingly their reliance on third-parties for internal components is something questionable on a large scale. They are already creating the Kirin series of chips which are used in their phones exclusively and these chips compete directly with those of Qualcomm, as an example.

The current flagship of Huawei’s chip lineup is the Kirin 970, which competes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845. The Kirin 970 launched back in September 2017 and has been used in several of Huawei’s flagships like the Mate 10 and P20 Pro. The Kirin 970 has an octa-core CPU and a 12-core GPU that is capable of ensuring long battery life and ultra fast internet speeds. If these sound good to you, hear what industry experts have to say about Huawei’s upcoming flagship chip, the Kirin 1020.

The Kirin 1020 is in the pipelines as of now but some details have emerged about it, thanks to rumors that have been going around. Please note, however, that the Kirin 1020 is NOT the next chip which will be released by Huawei. The Kirin 980 is expected to precede the Kirin 1020 chip. This raises the question: Why would Huawei launch two chips in quick succession?

Well, the Kirin 970 is not capable in itself to compete with the current flagship of Qualcomm, the SD845. To counter this and get an upper hand, Huawei is planning to launch the Kirin 980. To further their progress and to establish dominance in the market, Huawei is rumored to preparing for the launch of the Kirin 1020.

The Kirin 1020 is rumored to have twice the performance of the Kirin 970. Moreover, the Kirin 1020 is expected to feature 5G network capability, meaning that it is likely to be launched after the first 5G network launches. Accordingly, we might start seeing the Kirin 1020 in Huawei’s phone once 5G has been launched.
