Huawei’s Mate X Foldable reportedly delayed until September

Huawei has delayed the official launch of its Mate X Foldable handset until September having originally planned it for this summer.

The company had initially targeted the launch of their highly anticipated foldable device during June but a spokesperson from Huawei told CNBC that the company has now postponed its initial launch because Huawei was now doing some extra testing on its first ever foldable device in light of the colossal Galaxy Fold failure. It should be noted that Huawei hasn’t announced the official launch date for Mate X Foldable.

The spokesperson from Huawei further told CNBC that the company is now being “extra cautious” about the build-quality of its foldable phone after the breakable screen issues surfaced with Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. The spokesperson further said that Huawei has no intentions of destroying its reputation.

We don’t want to launch a product to destroy our reputation,” the spokesperson told CNBC.

Considering the hefty price and the extra $600 it carries over Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, Huawei has no choice but to deliver the very best of its quality. Furthermore, the recent ban by Google and an-all out attack by the Trump administration had already forced Huawei on the back-foot.

However, the Chinese company has assured that if forced it will launch its own OS which will run its devices, laptops, and tablets. Huawei’s consumer business CEO Richard Yu earlier said that his company may very well release it own OS later this year. This was further re-confirmed by the Huawei spokesperson that spoke to CNBC.

We don’t want to go for our own systems; we still very much like the co-operation with Google in the past few years. If we are forced to do it by ourselves, we are ready. We can do in the next six-to-nine months,” the spokesperson told CNBC.

Some good news for Huawei fans is that the Mate Foldable X will come with Google’s Android as it was launched before Google banned Huawei from using its operating system.
