Huawei continues to face the effects of United States’ Huawei ban, the Chinese tech giant is now barred from being a member of the SD Association. What it means is that Huawei is no longer allowed to put official SD or microSD in its future or upcoming smartphones or laptops, and it also includes the port designs that read these cards on a smartphone.
The SD Association is a trade organization that controls the standards of SD products. These products include everything from a standard SD card to a microSD and the port designs. If a company is not a member of this association they cannot officially produce components with these standards.
The SD Association while talking to Android Authority, said that they have removed Huawei from the list in compliance with the US order of Huawei ban. Huawei on the de-listing from association commented that its current phones using the microSD cards in them are safe.

Moreover, the Wi-fi Alliance (setting standards for Wi-fi across the market) has also placed a temporary restriction on the tech giants membership following the US ban. Huawei is also cutting ties with few companies, one of them includes JEDEC which is a semiconductor standards organization popularly know for defining RAM specifications. Nikkei Asian Review reports that Huawei has voluntarily left JEDEC over the problems between the company and the US. Following all of these bans, the tech giant will surely face difficulty in producing hardware and competing in the US market.
But as The Verge reported, losing SD Associations membership may not be the biggest of problems for Huawei, as the company already prepared for the SD card outage by developing their own proprietary Nano-Memory Cards, that are physically smaller than microSD cards and have also replaced the universal standard.
Other companies which have ended their support with Huawei include Google, Intel & Qualcomm and ARM. Furthermore, Microsoft has also removed Huawei’s MateBook X from its online stores.
