In its effort to transform the digital landscape of Pakistan, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has agreed to take benefit from the expertise of Chinese tech giant Huawei for improvement of the National Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) plan and e-governance initiatives.
The recent development has been made on the directions of the Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Federal Secretary Ministry of IT Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui. In a recently held meeting with the top management of Huawei, the officials discussed the procedure with Chinese tech titan to appraise the current status of ICT and technology in Pakistan for a digital transformation plan for Pakistan, a press release noted.
Furthermore, both parties discussed matters related to ICT and eGovernance during the meeting. The meeting was attended by several key officials of IT Ministry. The Huawei’s top executive briefed the Federal Secretary Ministry of IT about their services in the field of ICT and e-governance. As the press statement noted;
“It was agreed in the meeting that the Ministry of IT will jointly work with Huawei for the enhancement of the national ICT plan and e-governance initiatives to improve governance and public service delivery in Pakistan.”
This is not the first time Huawei is looking forward to make contributions in the country’s ICT sector, Huawei being the leading telecom provider in the world and a leading ICT infrastructure development company had previously held Pakistan in several ICT initiatives. With its ICT competition in Pakistan, Huawei invites colleges and universities in Pakistan to participate in the ICT competition to promote the ICT industry technology certification and develop the local ICT industry talent and ecosystem.
It is worth mentioning here that since its inception in Pakistan in 1988, Huawei has maintained robust growth and contributed to Pakistan’s overall ICT industry development. As of now, the company employs about 1,600 people in the country and among these, 91% are Pakistani nationals.
Meanwhile, Huawei’s VP Xueman has also recently affirmed that they are planning to establish new headquarter building in Islamabad to expand its Technical Support Team in the country which will create around 700 new job opportunities.
