Huawei to release EMUI 9.1 update for Mate 20 series along with a few mid-range phones

Huawei has announced plans of rolling out EMUI 9.1 update to its smartphones containing major improvements and the latest Android 9 Pie OS. It was announced with the Huawei P30 series and features major performance improvements such as a new file system called EROFS which not only increases the system storage but also increases the random read speed by up to 20%.

The rollout process of the new user interface comes in the midst of Huawei’s struggles with the U.S ban. With the Chinese manufacturer weighing in options whether to go for its own HongMeng OS or the Russian Sailfish, one thing is certain that Huawei’s revenues will take a major hit unless the ban is removed quickly.

In midst of all that ruckus, Huawei is also looking to the proper maintenance of its current smartphones, prior to misconceptions that Android on these handsets might stop working altogether. Given below is a list of smartphones which will get the EMUI 9.1 in the first phase:

From June 27

  • Huawei Mate 20
  • Huawei Mate 20 Pro
  • Huawei 20 X
  • Huawei 20 RS Porsche Design

In July

  • Huawei P20
  • Huawei P20 Pro
  • Huawei Mate 10
  • Huawei Mate 10 Pro
  • Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Design
  • Huawei Mate 9
  • Huawei Mate 9 Pro
  • Huawei Y9 2019
  • Huawei Y6 2019
  • Huawei Y5 2019
  • Huawei Nova 3
  • Huawei Nova 3i
  • Huawei Nova 3e
  • Huawei Nova 4

Taking a look at the list, we see that Huawei is prioritizing the current flagships and high-end phones for the update of EMUI. It’s also worthwhile to note that the list is any mention of the Huawei P10 whereas the Mate 9 is included in the update list. We do see some mid-range smartphones as well but why Huawei is not including the P10 is a question mark.

Is your phone getting the EMUI 9.1 update?
