Huawei P30 Pro dethrones Galaxy S10 Plus to become the new DXOMARK camera king

In the latest DXOMARK camera ranking, Huawei’s P30 Pro just defeated Samsung’s Galaxy S10 Plus to receive the status of the highest rated camera in a smartphone.

DXOMARK is a camera-benchmarking website which has a scientific method of testing the ability of a smartphone camera. It is similar to what Geekbech is for testing the processing power of a smartphone. A couple of weeks ago, DXOMARK released their review on the Galaxy S10 Plus which received the highest ever front camera rating of 96, beating Pixel 3 and Galaxy Note 9 and the joint-highest rear-camera rating of 109. However, a day after P30’s launch the Huawei Flagship defeated the Galaxy S10 Plus in the rear camera and the overall smartphone camera rating.

Photo score (119)

The Huawei P30 Pro by achieving a score of 119 broke all previous records owing to visible improvements made in areas of bokeh and zoom. Furthermore, the new innovative 5x tele-camera with folded optics and ToF sensor allows more precise depth maps in bokeh mode. As with all of the DXOMARK reviews, the Photo score oh Huawei P30 Pro’s camera was divided into further sub-categories:

  • Exposure (94)
  • Color (86)
  • Autofocus (100)
  • Texture (72)
  • Noise (78)
  • Artifacts (69)
  • Flash (99)
  • Zoom (95)
  • Bokeh (70)

While there were visible improvements in every category, the 5x Zoom was by far the best addition in this year’s P30.

Video score (97)

The video score of Huawei P30 Pro also achieves a good score of 97 which makes the device’s camera a great all-rounder. The video score of the P30 Pro is basically divided into a number of sub-scores:

  • Exposure (85)
  • Color (86)
  • Autofocus (98)
  • Texture (58)
  • Noise (77)
  • Artifacts (85)
  • Stabilization (94)

The P30 Pro‘s camera generally produced good target exposure while shooting a video. As with its stills mode, the camera is capable of exposing video scenes well down to impressively low light levels. With Huawei covering all of the important bases and regaining the top position in the DXOMARK camera ratings, the company will be looking forward to maintaining their streak with their upcoming Mate 30 line-up. The competition will surely get tough with many more major phones to come.
