The latest update to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro brings December security Patch with improvements in face unlock and better camera quality by introducing more natural colors in AI mode. The update rolling out to users include the version number 9.0.0.171 (C185E10R1P16) and has a 484MB size. The update brings three major upgrades.
The first major change that the update brings is the “optimization” of the face unlock feature for certain challenging scenarios, meaning the facial recognition system of Huawei Mate 20 pro will now perform better in low light and challenging conditions.
The second major change the upgrade brings is better photo quality in master AI mode to make the color production more natural and authentic. This is perhaps a reply to Google’s Pixel 3 and Apple’s iPhone XS who have better computational photography modes as they have true-to-life photos. Huawei’s front camera has been criticized on several occasion by a lot of YouTubers due to its beautification mode and aggressive softening of the image.
The latest update brings more natural colors in Mate 20 Pro’s AI mode, Huawei’s camera app for the Mate 20 pro currently allows the user to switch between three color modes. The update also solves another camera issue where the preview and actual photo differs. Furthermore, the update also fixed the camera app launch issue which sometimes crashes in certain scenarios.
December security patch
The final major change the update brings is Google’s December security patch fixes which take care of various bugs and glitches in the Android Pie version.
The update is the latest in the series of various other updates that the Mate 20 Pro has received. Previous updates included AI Zoom, better in-display fingerprint scanning, improved photo quality, and several video-related effects. The latest Huawei Mate 20 Pro update is rolling out in the form of an OTA download, if you haven’t received the notification, you can simply go to Settings > System > System update for manually downloading it.
