Huawei has 25% share in Pakistan’s mobile industry: Planning Minister

Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar has said that Huawei has a 25 percent share in the mobile phone market of Pakistan. The minister made these remarks while appreciating the company’s continued efforts to boost Pakistan’s economy in a recent meeting with Vice President of Huawei Group Mark Xueman.

Not only that, Planning Minister went on to add that Huawei is also the top tax-paying Chinese company doing business in Pakistan. He appreciated Huawei’s long-term commitment to equip Pakistan with modern technology and infrastructure. Khusro said that the world’s leading telecom giant can boost Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector of the country.

It is worth mentioning here that since its inception in Pakistan in 1988, Huawei has maintained robust growth and contributed to Pakistan’s overall ICT industry development. As of now, the company employs about 1,600 people in the country and among these, 91% are Pakistani nationals.

Meanwhile, Huawei’s VP Xueman has affirmed that they are planning to establish new headquarter building in Islamabad to expand its Technical Support Team in the country which will create around 700 new job opportunities.

Huawei is also planning to invest at least $100 million in Pakistan this year. The company is also looking forward to contribute to Pakistan’s e-governance initiative as well in centralizing data to improve efficiency and productivity in the ICT sector.
