How Lettuce Bee Kids is Transforming Digital Literacy for the Unprivileged

By using various resources provided by the Khan Academy, one of the most reliable online academies to provide free-of-cost education, Lettuce Bee Kids is trying to take street-children out of perpetual poverty. The organization is using computer labs present at Bahria University, Islamabad, to cater for a well-established classroom environment, with each volunteer spearheading 3-4 children. It employs both formal and informal modes, and tries to close the gap between the haves and the have-nots especially through blended learning, digital literacy and character building.

Sarah, the founder, along with many other research fellows at Lettucebee Kids carefully pick out the relevant digital media trends to inform the children about them. This shows a stern belief that technology is the way forward in eliminating poverty out of this world. By emphasizing that such children remain updated about various advancements in technology right from the start ensures that they can have a level-playing field in the future with those children who could afford the high tution costs of schools and universities.

By stressing upon digital literacy, Lettuce Bee Kids is in turn developing kids to be future entrepreneurs. Technology has been one of the few things that if used right can make a pauper turn into a millionaire overnight, simply because the world is looking for innovators that can help some solve new problems every single day. All the great tech giants including Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerburg, did not even finish college. They rather had one thing in common; digital literacy! Who knows our next tech giant comes from Lettuce Bee Kids!
