How does the Huawei Mate 20 Pro stack against the iPhone XS?

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the fourth flagship smartphone we have seen this month other than LG V40, Pixel 3 and Razer Phone 2. While OnePlus 6t and iPhone XR are yet to come. It is no secret that today’s smartphone market has become saturated and the consumer market has matured. However, in an extremely competitive atmosphere Huawei is standing out as an innovative smartphone manufacturer and the Mate 20 Pro proves it.

Today, we’ll take you through a brief account about how the Huawei Mate 20 Pro stacks up against the iPhone XS.

Both iPhone XS Max and Huawei Mate 20 Pro follow a similar design language with minimum bezels and notch on the top of the display. However, how does the Chinese giant’s absolute best stack up against Apple? Let’s explore.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Huawei Mate 20 Series is powered by Huawei’s densest and highest performing system on chip (SoC) to date—the Kirin 980. Manufactured with the advanced 7mm process incorporating the powerful Cortex-A76-based CPU and Mali-G76 GPU paired with 4-8GB RAM along with 128GB and 512 GB of built-in storage. Besides superb performance, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro also features groundbreaking improvement on battery life. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro houses a large, high-density 4200mAh battery, and supports 40W Huawei SuperCharge, which gives the device 70 percent charge in 30 minutes. The safety of the technology is certified by TÜV Rheinland.

Moreover, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is equipped with a 40MP main camera, a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera. Together, the trio of lenses supports a wide range of focal lengths (equivalent to the performance of a 16-270mm zoom lens), enabling it to mimic the results from professional cameras. The Mate 20 Pro also features an AI Portrait Color video mode which can isolate human subjects and desaturates the colors around them to dramatically highlight the person. AI Spotlight Reel identifies clips with a shared theme and auto-generates a montage, made entirely of highlights. The phone also supports a 3D Face Unlock.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is shipped with the highly customized Android P-based EMUI 9 operating system, on which consumers can enjoy all productivity and entertainment features easily and conveniently with few simple taps and swipes.

iPhone XS Max

Apple naturally goes with its in-house designed operating system i.e. iOS, unlike the Mate 20 Pro which runs on Google’s Android. The iPhone XS Max will run on the new iOS 12. iPhone XS Max is equipped with Apple’s own designed and manufactured processor – A12 chip. The XS Max comes with a 6.5-inch display with 2688 x 1242 pixel resolution with a similar pixel density. The devices come with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB of storage. The notch is present on the OLED display which houses all the major sensors needed for Face ID to work, such as the infrared camera, the flood illuminator, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, front camera, and dot projector. In terms of battery capacity, the iPhone XS Max come with 3,174 mAh battery.

In the camera department, the iPhone XS Max features a pair of 12-megapixel optically stabilized cameras with the primary camera having an f1.8 aperture. The cameras are combined with new image signal processing on the A12 bionic chip. With the improved image processing comes to a new feature called ‘smart HDR’ which is more commonly known as HDR in Android phones. Furthermore, there is an overall improvement in low-light sensitivity, less noise and an updated portrait mode with an even better edge detection. Apple’s updated Portrait Mode includes a feature allowing the f-stop of the simulated bokeh-effect to be changed afterward for pictures taken via portrait mode.

Conclusion

Both phones are jam-packed with features, Apple takes the lead in the processing department as the A12 by far is the most powerful smartphone chip on the smartphone market whereas Mate 20 Pro takes the lead in superior specs, better 4G LTE connectivity, and much superior charging options. Another thing that is purely unique to the Mate 20 Pro is that it also has the features to act a wireless charger for any other smartphone(capable of wireless charging).

Both phones look to be really promising and you can’t really go wrong with either of these. The decision ultimately comes down to whether you prefer a well-integrated ecosystem or a ground-breaking triple lens camera with some exciting features– everything else on these handsets should be more than enough for whatever you need.
