Hour of Code: Peshawar 2.0 is making its Presence Felt!

Computer Science is Subject, but Programming is a Global Art

Peshawar 2.0 continues the legacy of revolutionizing Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa through technology by organizing an ‘Hour of Code’ to introduce Biology and Biotechnology students to programming during Computer Science Education Week.

The Hour of Code is an initiative of code.org and will be organized throughout the world to celebrate Computer Science Education Week from 9th to 15th of December 2013.

Computers need instructions. Well those instructions come from software and we all know machines obey those instructions. Hence, it is time to make best use of programming in the field of Biology with Peshawar 2.0’s initiatives.

The ‘Hour of Code’

Computer Science might have been popular subject a few years back but coming days have seen allied subjects to come up with unique ideas and software engineering is now kicking off in a new direction. The way world has merged computers with simply everything, the day is not far that man’s most needs would be fulfilled by programmed machines.

The Centre of Biotechnology and Microbiology at the University of Peshawar has been working towards introducing latest subjects into the curriculum, including Systems Biology – a cutting-edge area in the field of computational biology and bioinformatics. The Hour of Code workshop was held in collaboration with Peshawar 2.0 with mentors from the software industry. A total of 60 students attended the event with females in majority.

Initiatives like these can pave the way for so many budding researchers to grow and make name of Pakistan all across the globe in the field of Biology and Bio-Technology. This can go a long way in fulfilling the much needed research culture in Pakistan and Peshawar 2.0 has taken it up as a mission.

Instructor’s and Opinions

‘Programming is a much needed skill nowadays, which is of value not just to computer science students but also those studying fields like mathematics, biology and engineering’.

As per his own views the workshop was a fun and he enjoyed being a part of it.

Ali Raza, founder of SweetPixels studio and the second instructor also shared his experiences with coding and Big Data analytics. The insights of the two instructors had been really helpful for the CS Education Week’s inuagral event The ‘Hour of Code’.
