‘Honey-trapped’ Indian soldier arrested for passing information to fake account

Indian Army has arrested an Army official for sharing secret information with fake girls accounts from Pakistan.

Sombir Singh, a sepoy from the Indian army, was stationed near the Pakistan-India border in Jaisalmer, Rajhastan when he got into an affair with an account supposedly owned by Anika Chopra, a lady medical officer from Indian Army. As the affair strengthened, Anika asked Sombir for sharing pictures of army equipment including those of tanks and artillery. The sepoy even shared the location of Army units when asked by the lady, CNN has reported.

As the issue was unearthed by the authorities, they arrested Sombir Singh for violating the Secret Information act. The Facebook account of Anika Chopra was later found out to be owned by a Pakistan. “He was honey-trapped via Facebook from a lady in Pakistan,” the Additional Director General of Rajasthan Police, Umesh Mishra, told the UK-based daily.

Somber Singh was, hence, arrested by the authorities last week. If proven guilty by the relevant court, Somber would be jailed for violating the Official Secrets Act. Indian Army is also investigating as much as 50 more soldiers for being in ‘dalliance’ with the same woman but through different social media accounts.
