Pakistan’s top telecom companies, namely Jazz, Zong, and Nayatel, disclosed their financial performance over the past 10 years, highlighting their substantial contributions to the national economy.
In total, these operators generated around PKR 2.521 trillion in revenue from the fiscal years 2013-14 to 2022-23. During this duration, they provided approximately PKR 763.81 billion in taxes, highlighting the crucial importance of the telecom sector in Pakistan’s economic framework.
Jazz
As the leading telecom operator, Jazz recorded PKR 1.663 trillion in revenues over the course of ten years, with PKR 502.51 billion in tax contributions.
Zong
Securing the second position, Zong earned PKR 821.54 billion in income and paid PKR 248.88 billion in taxes during the same time.
Nayatel
Although a smaller player in the market, Nayatel recorded PKR 37.6 billion in revenues and paid PKR 12.42 billion in taxes over the previous decade.
The telecom industry’s expansion is further evidenced by the overall growth in total revenues, rising from PKR 604.3 billion in 2018-19 to PKR 850.2 billion in 2022-23. The upward trend underscores the growing need for telecommunication services and the industry’s strength in the face of economic difficulties.
Furthermore, the latest report from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reveals that the telecom sector has made significant tax contributions, with direct taxes experiencing a remarkable growth of 43.2% in the fiscal year 2022-23, exceeding targets by around PKR 419 billion.
