Here is how you can try Windows 10 right now

Microsoft has launched the Windows 10 Technical Preview after the mind blowing introduction of the OS at the flagship event last week. The preview is only available for desktop now while that for phones and tablet will arrive in February.

The beta version for desktop includes few of the Windows 10 features to test out such as Cortana Virtual Assistant, an improved Start Menu, new settings, Photos, Maps and Windows Store apps along with new Xbox app. However, you cannot stream games from your console yet.

Before you install the Windows 10 Preview, beware that it can be risky to try out an early build of the OS since unexpected PC crashes can damage or delete your files. Therefore, back up your files and install the preview on a spare computer instead of your primary home or business PC.

Here is how you can test out the beta version.

1. Sign up for Windows Insider Program to join a community of IT experts who are helping to shape Windows 10 features.

2. If you have Windows 8.1 then you are good to go otherwise Microsoft will check your system for compatibility with Windows 10 Technical Preview before installing. Other system requirements include:

    • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
    • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
    • Free hard disk space: 16 GB
    • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver
    • A Microsoft account and Internet access

3. Now you can directly upgrade your current desktop or download ISO images for installing on another PC.

If you decide to try out the Windows 10 Technical Preview, don’t forget to share the experience with us.
