HEC launches urgent degree verification service for a whopping PKR 5000

As Pakistan is facing an ongoing financial crisis the government is trying to generate revenue through every way possible. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan has also moved in to play its part to help the country tackle the financial crisis. In this regard, the commission has launched an urgent service for the verification of degrees. The urgent verification will now cost Rs. 5000, besides the normal fee of Rs. 800.

By charging Rs. 5000, HEC has set a target of earning Rs. 500,000 per day for urgent degree verification. The commission is with this policy is expected to generate additional revenue of Rs. 150 million per year, helping the authority to cover the increasing financial crisis.

The official sources have revealed that besides the urgent fees, specials slots have been granted in the regional offices as well as the main office which includes 45 slots in the headquarters, 20 slots in Lahore’s regional office, 15 slots in Karachi while 10 slots each for regional offices of Quetta and Peshawar have been allocated. This will help HEC to reach the Rs.500, 000 target set by the authorities.

Director General Attestation and Equivalence Tahir Zaidi said that HEC has initiated this process to eliminate nepotism and facilitate the needy students on a priority basis.

According to the sources, the commission will charge Rs. 5000 besides the normal fee of Rs. 800. Moreover, HEC also charges Rs. 500 for photocopy verification. Previously, the candidates who wanted verification were facilitated without any extra fees on providing the date of interview or letter from any institute seeking a degree, however, now they will be charged Rs. 5000.

The service will initiate from today, and the candidates can set their appointments on a priority basis by choosing for urgent attestation via the HEC’s online portal. The attestation booths will be available at all the above-mentioned offices from Monday to Friday.
