The #Hashtag phenomena which started in 2007 is now 10 years old. Yes, folks, I am talking about “#” Hashtag. It was first originated from Twitter and then spread to other social platforms such as Facebook. The man who pinched the idea to use hashtag was Chris Messina- an American social media expert and now head of community and growth at an art trading website.
He tweeted on 23 August 2007: how do you feel about using # (pound) for groups. As in #barcamp [msg]? His little hack has become so much popular that the # symbol is being used 125 million times on Twitter alone each day.
While talking to The Guardian Chris said,
“It’s thrilling to see how this little idea that came out of a very specific moment in the evolution of the Internet took off and has grown into something far bigger than me, bigger than Twitter or Instagram, and that will hopefully maintain its relevance for a long time to come,”
Here are some most popular #Hashtags
#BlackLiveMatter becomes popular on Twitter when some black people were killed by Police in the US. And now its is an international movement to bring people together to work and make a better society for black people.
