Grand Theft Auto 6 Expected to Generate $3 Billion in First-Year Revenues

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI), the latest installment in Rockstar Games’ acclaimed series, is set to become the most significant launch of 2025. Analysts project first-year revenues to reach an unprecedented $3.2 billion, with pre-orders alone expected to generate over $1 billion.

The game’s trailer, released in December 2023, has crossed over 225 million views on YouTube. This signifies the immense anticipation for the first new entry in the series after over a decade of waiting.

Set in the fictional Vice City, GTA VI will feature a narrative centered around a criminal couple reminiscent of Bonnie and Clyde. The game is due for release in the fall of 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. The project’s scale is highlighted by the anticipated development costs, which range from several hundred million to $2 billion.

The release of GTA VI is anticipated to revitalize the market, even though the gaming industry has experienced a general decline, with a projected growth rate of only 2.2% in 2025 and significant redundancies since 2022. Sales of 40 million copies are anticipated within the first year, with the potential to reach 100 million units by 2030.

Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, expressed confidence in the game’s success, stating that he anticipates Rockstar Games will “deliver something phenomenal.”

The spotlight remains firmly on Rockstar Games as the gaming community anticipates an official release date for GTA 6. However, industry speculation hints at the possibility of a delay pushing the launch into 2026.
