Govt to introduce E-commerce policy in Pakistan

The government for the first time ever has decided to introduce e-commerce policy on Pakistan. The purpose behind introducing the policy is to create new job opportunities and to boost exports in the country.

According to reports from media outlets, the government will present the draft for the e-commerce policy in the cabinet meeting for consideration. The reports further reveal that the new policy contains the proposal to develop an effective infrastructure for local as well as across the border transactions.

The proposal also suggests the establishment of an international gateway to make payments under the new policy and it would also make the registration of online businesses with SECP compulsory.

With the recent boost in the internet technology and the increasing cross-border influence of China, e-commerce has emerged as a catalyst to Pakistan’s socioeconomic image. Moreover, with the rising entrepreneurial culture and stabilizing digital footprint, the future of e-commerce in Pakistan seems bright.

E-commerce is the process of buying or selling products on online services or over the Internet, and different sectors in Pakistan are reaping the benefits of this system. A few months ago the Federal Minister for Communications and Postal Services Murad Saeed revealed that Pakistan Post has transported up to 46,000 parcels to their destinations through E-commerce. Furthermore, many e-commerce companies in Pakistan like Unity Retail, Trax Logistics, and Blue Cascade are performing quite well in this sector.

With the rise in e-commerce culture in the country it is necessary to have a suitable policy to manage all the processes effectively.
