Govt to develop its own application as alternate for WhatsApp

In the era of personal and governments’ data leak all around the world, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government has decided to develop its own messaging app for communication between state institutions. The application will be a replacement for current available third party services including WhatsApp.

According to the report released after the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, the application will be called “Govt App”. The report further says “An indigenous application [called] Govt-APP may be developed. All communication related to the government if required may be undertaken using the said APP instead of other OTT services such as WhatsApp, Viber and Facebook messenger. The data will be stored in Pakistan.”

This will be a great initiative for Pakistan and a big step towards its independence from those foreign messaging applications. The communication data between the government officials or institutions is mostly confidential, therefore a state cannot afford the leak of such sensitive information to its enemy.

Just like any other country government leader in Pakistan uses Blackberry encryption services for sensitive data sharing. Whole data will be localized with the new system that the government is planning to launch. Only the government of Pakistan will have full power over the control and safety of data.

Since Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf came into power their main focus is on the development of the country through technology. They realize that technology is the future and it can be a great tool to regulate government authorities.

One of the great initiatives by the PTI government is Citizen Portal that has resolved millions of complaints filed by Pakistanis across the country. From an application for tax filing by FBR to Qeemat Punjab App which provides fruits and vegetables on the fixed prices in the five big cities of the country.
