Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) has announced to roll out Electric bikes and wheelchair while briefing National Assembly Standing Committee on Science and Technology.
PCSIR has been very active from the past couple of years, earlier they introduced solar power rickshaw in the country. The committee led by Chairman Sajid Mehdi was informed about the progress and future plans of the Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET).

Pakistan is among those countries which are using the highest number of motorcycles, and introducing electric bikes and rickshaws is very important to reduce the emission of carbon. Introducing the electric vehicles in Pakistan would not only be helpful for the environment but it would also help Pakistan economically. Pakistan imports oil of more than $12 billion every year from different countries, according to the Ministry for Climate Change Pakistan can save RS 109 Billion with the launch of electric cars in the country.
The vision of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf is to solve the alarmingly rising environmental issues in the country. After resuming the power Prime Minister Imran Khan asked the ministers to work on bringing electric vehicles in Pakistan to fight with pollution in the air. The target of the government is to convert 30 percent of the transport into electric vehicles by 2030.
PCSIR proposed the establishment of an internationally accredited laboratory with the collaboration of Pakistan Standard and Quality Control Authority to regulate the production of quality Solar Panels.
Engineer Usman Khan Tarakai, Abdul Shakoor Shad, Sobia Kamal Khan, and Zaib Jaffar, besides the senior officers from the Ministry of Science and Technology and director-general of the PCSIR was also present at the meeting.
The committee urged the government to take some serious steps to promote renewable energy in the country and appoint people on the vacant seats in PCSIR to make it perform better.
