Govt to allow duty free import of cars for overseas Pakistanis

The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development has proposed relief for overseas Pakistanis. In the proposal, the ministry suggests duty-free import of hybrid cars with up to 3000cc engine to those overseas Pakistanis who remit $100,000 over a period of two years.

Sayed Zulfi Bukhari has been working very hard as the adviser to Prime Minister on the overseas Pakistanis. He has done a lot of work for their welfare and allowing duty-free import of cars is another addition to his efforts.

The notification was sent to the concerned departments including the Ministry of Industries & Production and the Engineering Development Board by the overseas ministry.

“In this context, on the direction of Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit, the Prime Minister’s office, this Ministry is in the process of devising a Manual of Privilege for Overseas Pakistanis-2019,” the notification read.

The ministry has also asked other departments to take steps for the well-being of the overseas Pakistanis, as they are greatly contributing to improve the financial condition of the country. It is projected that the remittance from 8 million overseas Pakistanis will increase by 5% to record $23 billion in this fiscal year.

After coming into power Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf imposed huge taxes on the imports to reduce the fiscal deficit of the country. Now that the condition of the economy is stable, the government has started providing relief to the people. A few days ago Federal Board of Revenue announced that it was planning to allow duty-free mobile phone imports under the Baggage Rule. Under the Baggage Rule, people would be able to bring one mobile phone in their baggage.
