Govt Aims for $25 Billion IT Export Target in Next Three Years

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his commitment to meeting the $25 billion target for IT exports over the next three years on Friday, underlining the government’s efforts to develop the telecoms sector.

In a meeting with a five-member VEON Group delegation headed by Chairman Augie K. Fabela, the prime minister announced that the government was moving forward with plans to launch 5G internet service, which would allow for dependable and fast internet access even in outlying locations. He went on to say that 5G services would be essential in the government’s efforts to make Digital Pakistan a reality.

According to a news statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, he spoke on the importance of the telecom industry in pushing for a digital and cashless economy and praised the work of Jazz, a subsidiary of the VEON Group, in the financial technology and telecom industries in Pakistan.

A statement from Prime Minister Shehbaz stated that the government was open to working with VEON Group on matters related to information technology, digitization, and artificial intelligence.

Pakistan has emerged as a prime location for investments in the information technology and telecommunications industries, according to the delegation members, who also praised the government’s initiatives to stabilize the economy.

This meeting was attended by appropriate top officers, including Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue, Coordinator to PM Rana Ehsan Afzal, and others.
