Government Takes Action Against Online Terrorist Activities and Illegal SIM Cards

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi declared that the federal government and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will take strong measures against restricted terrorist organizations that use social media. Additionally, steps will be taken to ensure that SIM cards cannot be used illegally in order to reduce their exploitation for illicit purposes.

Officials revealed substantial advancements in counter-terrorism operations during Tuesday’s crucial meeting of the National Action Plan (NAP) Coordination Committee. From a total of 7,984 operations, 206 terrorists have been eliminated as a consequence of actions based on intelligence as of October this year.

Provincial governments and the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) need to work together more closely, as was stressed during the meeting. In an effort to improve communication and cooperation, a National Fusion Centre has been set up. During the next session, high-ranking officials from PTA and other organizations will lay out detailed plans to destroy infrastructure that supports terrorism.

Naqvi Calls for Stronger Counter-Terrorism and Security Measures

Defending Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Minister Naqvi said the recent terrorist assaults were “deeply regrettable.” He promised to equip police forces in every province with cutting-edge technology and stressed the need to bolster the professional capabilities of Counter Terrorism Forces (CTFs). According to Naqvi, “Improving law and order requires collective effort.” He urged everyone involved to collaborate.

The federal government has ordered institutions to disclose their resource needs to the Ministry of Interior within seven days in order to satisfy the urgent requirements of law enforcement authorities. To get NACTA back to its roots and make it more effective in the fight against terrorism, changes are being made inside the organization.

While there was a review of security measures for Chinese nationals in Pakistan, Naqvi ordered a strong security strategy to be put into action. It was also stressed that the Coast Guard should have more funding to fight drug smuggling along coastlines.

Among other important steps, the formation of a Counter-Terrorism Authority in Islamabad was highlighted in a detailed briefing by Khalid Khattak, the National Coordinator of NACTA. The group made it clear again that it was dedicated to ending terrorism and protecting national security.
