The government has launched an online monitoring and evaluation system for all government schools in the Islamabad Capital Territory. The initiative comes under the Prime Minister’s Education Reforms Programme (PMERP), the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD).
The CADD oversees activities of government educational institutions in Islamabad’s urban and rural areas, while the PMERP is a programme directed by Maryam Nawaz Shareef along with a committee of MNAs, CADD ministers, and various other concerned officials.
This new program from the PMERP will operate using the expertise of Monitoring and Evaluation Assistants (MEAs) have been appointed to visit schools and collect data regarding the state of education, students enrollment, attendance, official visits by management, allocation of non-salary budget, condition of classrooms, toilets, drinking water, and electricity.
The 22 MEAs appointed for this task have been provided tablets with instructions to gather pictorial evidence of all the aforementioned factors and report to ICT educational institutions twice a month to present a detailed account.
The MEAs are mostly upper and lower divisional clerks, lab assistants and attendants who have been selected after rounds of preliminary interviews and hands-on training. Most of them have double master’s degrees in Physics, Economics, and Biology.
Last year the Punjab government launched a web service for smart monitoring of schools. This recent initiative is also similar and will allow the government to remain on top the performance of schools and constructs reforms to improve the education system.
