Google’s new extension informs you if your password has been stolen

A while back there was a massive leak of credentials consisting of more than 21 million entries and that is just one of the scandals that surround modern platforms against breaches. Google’s new extension aims to keep users informed in case their passwords are stolen by matching the entry with a database consisting of more than 4 billion credentials and if there is a match, you will be prompted to change your password immediately.

In wake of recent cybersecurity breaches, this move by Google is a step in the right direction considering most of our accounts are made using browsers plus we intend to repeat the same password throughout multiple websites. Considering more than 10 percent of the web uses the worst passwords online,  we need the Password Checkup extension for an added layer of security.

You must be wondering whether Google will snoop into your passwords? The search giant claims that the extension has been designed in such a way that no company employee will have access to user data. If you believe that, you might as well look at how the extension informs you about your passwords:

You can download the extension from here.
