Tech giant Google has updated its programmatic and ad sales platform, AdSense, which would now be removing ads from the web pages that violate AdSense policies without punishing entire website. The step is taken in a bid to attract publishers by offering more transparency and flexibility.
AdSense allows online publishers to advertise alongside their content. Publishers can even customize where ads appear and block the ones that are not suitable. Advertising is the main source of Google’s business and revenue. That is why Google is keen on blocking ads which may affect their image and business.
Google will not allow a website consisting of just ads. For advertising to be effective, it has to be aligned with quality content. Google is allowing publishers to use AdSense code on pages where there are violent imagery and racial intolerance. Till now Google has punished many publishers by removing all the ads from websites in violation of AdSense policies, but now Google will remove the ads that violate AdSense policies not all the ads on the website.
“As we roll out page-level policy action as the new default for content violations, we’ll be able to stop showing ads on select pages, while leaving ads up on the rest of a site’s good content,” explained Scott Spencer, director for sustainable ads at Google, in a blog post. “We’ll still use site-level actions but only as needed. And when it’s necessary, such as in the case of egregious or persistent violations, we’ll still terminate publishers,” he added.
Spencer further asserted, “The policy center also makes it easy for publishers to tell us when policy issues have been resolved and their pages are ready for review.”
Google has also updated its messaging app ‘Allo’. With this new update, one can generate custom cartoon stickers out of their selfie.
