Google will introduce cheaper smartphones to avoid revenue loss

Google plans to introduce cheaper smartphones to avoid the same mistake Apple made with this year’s iPhones and also prevent any revenue loss. The market conditions are changing with more and more people opting for a budget priced or mid-range phones rather than the flagship ones. Global smartphone sales are also seeing a decline, as we saw last day even with the iPhone, people are now upgrading their handsets after 4 years now.

Google’s upcoming cheap Pixel variant is expected to be priced lower than the iPhone XR so it should probably be in the upper mid-range region where the OnePlus 6T currently retails. Aside from a premium Pixel phone to pair up with this cheaper variant, Google also intends to announce smart speakers, Pixel Watch and web cameras according to Nikkei Asian Review.

Google is quickly making a team for its hardware division and recent inductions include veterans from Apple and Qualcomm. We recently reported that Google is also hiring for its design team in Bengaluru which will allow it to make in-house chips for use in processors and other devices.

Right now, Google only has a small presence in the global smartphone market and this budget-priced Pixel phone will allow them to penetrate this market for a larger market share. According to an analyst:

Google’s hardware push will make it difficult for people to live without Google’s services and ecosystem … That’s the big picture the internet giant always has in mind.

What are your thoughts regarding a cheap Pixel phone? Would you buy this phone if it were launched?
