Google Upgrades Find My Device with Biometric Login for Enhanced Security

Google’s Find My Device network continues to evolve with new features in terms of usability and security. The latest update of the app includes a biometric login, which means that users can easily and securely access the platform. This change follows the app’s integration with Google Home, marking another step forward in expanding its capabilities.

The current stable release, version 3.1.173-1, introduces biometric authentication, allowing users to sign in with their faces, fingerprints, or a code. Earlier users had to type in their Google account password every time, although it was safe, it was not very convenient.

The new feature streamlines the process without compromising security. Notably, the option to “Don’t ask again” for passwords has been removed, ensuring that users must authenticate every time they open the app, eliminating a potential security risk.

Besides this, Google is also in the process of developing a UI update for tablet users as well. The bottom-aligned control panel will be replaced with the side panel, which will work well on large screens while keeping all the main options, such as “Play sound,” “Secure device,” “Mark as lost,” and “Get directions.” Even though this UI improvement is not live, it shows that Google is keen on improving the app’s UI in different devices. These changes make Find My Device even more convenient to use while keeping people’s personal devices protected.

Eligible devices for the latest Find My Device update

This update is live now on devices with Find My Device v3.1.173-1, including the Pixel 8 on Android 15. However, because of the Android security settings, screenshots of the authentication screen are prohibited. With these changes, Google Find My Device becomes more convenient with preserved security levels of personal devices.
