If we ask you to get a hand on that DeLorean, the one they used in “Back to the future” series, and start off with your own time travel, would you agree? Of course you would! Who would not want to time travel and do some thrilling adventure same as the back to the future movies gave us almost 30 years ago!
Well, let us enlighten you that now you can now feel the same experience. Just last year, Google maps introduced a feature that can let you time travel through their “street view”. Where you can see how much the street has changed over the years. This feature is here since April 2014, and instead of the yellow faceless pegman as your map guide, the seat belongs to Doc Brown himself. Isn’t a great way to celebrate the back to the future day?
All you need to do is open the Google maps in your browser. Now go to your location (any that supports the street views). Drag and drop the yellow pegman to the location you wish to view. In my case, I chose “the Brooklyn Bridge”.
Once the pegman is dropped, select the “street view”. You will see the image in the street view mode. Now at the top left corner of your screen you can see the icon with the date of the last capture of the view. When you click on this view another image with a timeline will open.
The image will show a chronological captures of the street views regarding the “Brooklyn Bridge” or any of your selection.
Do remember, if the location you’ve entered has the time travel feature, the clock icon will appear.
“This new feature can also serve as a digital timeline of recent history, like the reconstruction after the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Onagawa, Japan,” according to the company. “You can even experience different seasons and see what it would be like to cruise Italian roadways in both summer and winter.”
You can see the launch of this feature as part of the “Back to the Future” Day here on twitter.
While you are busy in your time traveling, why not check out the Back to the Future filming locations. Even someone has created a Google Maps pinpointing spots, which includes Doc Brown’s garage, Hill Valley High School and the railroad tracks where the DeLorean was destroyed in fictional 1985. The location markers are color-coded to show how accessible it is to the public.
