Google secretly launches an intelligent feature for Google Now

Earlier today, Google released a new server side feature for Google Now by the name of Location Aware Search (LAS). The name itself is pretty self-explanatory, but for those of you who still did not understand, the feature will tell you about anything and everything near your location or at your location.

Some common phrases which you can try on Google Now using this feature are “What river is near me?” , “What is this Church’s name?”, “What’s the phone number for Salt and Pepper?” , “What gas stations are near me?” etc. This app will be more useful to people who travel to new parts of the city or country and get lost. According to the various demos on the twitter timeline, LAS is pretty extensive and detailed.

This is the only suitable examples that you can find on Danny Sullivan’s Twitter account where this feature made its debut. Additionally, you can also find mention of ‘Now on Tap’, another feature that is on everyone’s radar. This function is for Google Now and you may have to wait for the roll-out to happen.

LAS is a pretty handy feature for the inner traveller within us. Let’s see if more user commands crop up over the coming days for us to experiment with, maybe once Google officially announces and launch it publicly. For now, you can try it out on your daily commute and let us know how it turned out for you.

What do you think of the new addition to Google Now? Love it or Hate it? Let us know in the comments!
