The Google Play Store is currently working on a new feature that is designed to assist users in avoiding the installation of unreliable or low-quality applications. Although not an ideal solution, this update is intended to offer users valuable information, enabling them to make more informed decisions and avoid applications that may be a waste of time or data.
A recent update to the Play Store (version 43.7.19-31) reveals that Google plans to introduce warning messages directly on the app’s details page. These alerts will offer valuable insights that are derived from critical app data, including high uninstall rates, low user engagement, or insufficient data. For example, users may see messages like “This app is frequently uninstalled compared to similar apps on Play” or “This app has few active users compared to others on Play.”
Although these notifications are not definitive indicators of a low-quality app, they can offer valuable information. A high uninstall rate may indicate that the program fails to meet user expectations, while a paucity of user data may raise concerns about its popularity or dependability. These warnings will assist users in making more informed judgments prior to proceeding with a download.
It imperative that Google does not prevent consumers from downloading these programs, but rather provides them with more information to help them make a choice. These notifications may be particularly useful for users with limited data or slow internet connections, since they may prevent the installation of programs that use important resources and space while delivering nothing in return.
To avoid these alerts from appearing, the feature encourages developers to focus on improving the effectiveness and engagement of their app. Apps that fail to meet user expectations may be incentivized to improve their functioning, which might eventually benefit the whole Play Store ecosystem.
This feature, which is currently under development, exemplifies Google’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of apps accessible on the Play Store and enhance the user experience.
