Chrome OS has always been an interesting experiment of Google. When internet is becoming an indispensable commodity, concept of an operating system made entirely out of web technologies, is one, which makes a lot of sense. However, with such commitment to web comes a big disadvantage – lack of quality native apps.
Lack of good productivity and recreational apps has always been off-putting for many users, who has deliberated about using a Chromebook in the past. Google hopes to tackle this by including support for android applications on Chrome OS devices.
Latest Chrome OS builds include an Android subsystem which will allow applications to run natively without any performance or compatibility issues. Apps can be installed through the Google Play store which will automatically be installed after the device has been updated to latest version of the OS. Upon updating their devices, users will be presented with terms and services of using Play store. Clicking on “Agree” will allow users to install and enjoy any app of their choosing on their Chrome OS device.
Prospect of running nearly 2.2 million Android applications will certainly boost interest among users who were hesitating to buy a Chrome OS device due to lack of usable apps. However, you should be careful before buying a Chromebook in Pakistan as it might not be suited for the usage scenario of a common user.
