Google Pixel 3 XL gets the best display rating in current smartphone market

DisplayMate, the display-benchmarking website in a tweet declared that Google Pixel 3 XL to have one of the best displays in the smartphone market. Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were recently launched as Google’s latest flagship, and many YouTube reviewers praised Pixel 3’s OLED display that caught everyone’s eye.

After the official introduction of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL phones yesterday, DisplayMate on Twitter told everyone about their findings. After a thorough lab-testing of the Pixel 3 XL, the website concluded that the OLED display of Pixel 3 XL has earned the “highest A+ rating” as well. Furthermore, the information also reveals that the Pixel 3 XL display has received the “Best Smartphone Display Award”, similar to Note9 and iPhone XS Max before.

The Pixel 3 XL features a 6.3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels. This results in a ~523 ppi rating. The panel also features 100,000:1 contrast ratio, and is HDR-compliant. DisplayMate further said that an in-depth article of the Pixel 3 XL’s display will be uploaded on Monday, October 15th.

However, this doesn’t really reflect anything since a few weeks ago, DisplayMate also declared iPhone XS Max to have “the best smartphone display in the world” and Note 9 before that.

Pixel 2 XL display controversy

Google should nevertheless be credited for this achievement since last year’s Pixel 2 XL was bombarded with criticism for having a poor display. The most notable complaints were the Blueshift, lifeless color representation and screen-burn in. Google was able to solve the issue of ‘lifeless color representation” via a software update in a matter of days, by adding two new modes for the users; saturated and boosted. However, in order to remove the Blueshift and burn-in problems customers had to wait another six months since the Pixel 2 headsets that came after February resolved these issues. Interestingly the smaller model, Pixel 2 did not face any problems since its display was an OLED panel made by Samsung while the Pixel 2 XL’s display was POLED, manufactured by LG.
