Google Photos can now turn your videos into GIFs

Google

Google Photos is getting a significant update today, enabling users to turn the most animated parts of their videos into a GIF. The update will also make it easier to take a glance at old photos and help fix those taken at an awkward angle.

Google Photos is already a very capable image management tool. It can automatically arrange your pictures into person specific albums, make GIFs out of similar photos and automatically tag your photos with their right location. Today Google has announced updates for Photos which will further enhance its ability to display and sort your photos in a much more interesting manner.

Google Photos will now use machine learning to look for parts of your video which seem to contain most activity. It will then convert those segments into a GIF and present you with the option to save the resultant animation or share it with your friends and family.

In addition to allowing you to create GIFs from videos, Google photos will now also show you occasional cards reminding you of previous memories. These cards will be automatically generated based on your previous pattern of sharing videos and photos with your friends and family.

Lastly Google Photos will now automatically straighten sideways photos. This is also done through the magic of machine learning and boasts its accuracy on Google’s superior work in Image analysis.

Google Photos is available for free on Web, Android and iOS devices. All of the features announced today are independent of device used and will be available for all users at once.
