Google Launches New App to Keep Your Chats Private

Within the Play Store, there’s a new Google app. Its purpose is to protect your Android device’s messages and chats from cyber threats and scammers.

According to Android Authority, the Android System Key Verifier app can check the identity of your contacts by using QR codes and encryption keys. This service is part of the system and can be used on any Android 10 or later device. Users can keep end-to-end encryption keys in their chat app and share them safely with others using QR codes. This way, they can be sure they are always talking to the right person.

Rise of Hacked Accounts

The app deals with the problem of impersonation scams. Scammers will start texting you after they acquire access to one of your contacts’ accounts. You are easily misled into disclosing personal information or paying money because you assume the communications are from a contact. To combat this fraud, you can use the Android System Key Verifier.

It operates in two ways. To start, it keeps Google Messages and other encrypted messaging app keys safe. With end-to-end encryption, this keeps chats safe and stops people from getting in without permission.

Secondly, you can use the app to confirm contacts by exchanging QR codes. Scan each other’s QR codes to verify your identity when you create a new contact. At any moment, you can request a new QR code scan from your contact to confirm their identity.

Contact Key Verification is an analogous system that is pre-installed in iOS. It’s an important part of building trust when talking to other people, and it looks like Google made the new app with Apple’s setup in mind.

Will Google Integrate This Feature in Other Apps?

While the Android System Key Verifier is already available as a separate app, rumors have circulated that Google may include it in Google Messages in the coming year. Security must play a significant role in Google’s extensive effort to evolve its service stack in the 21st century. This app is just the beginning of a much more comprehensive set of privacy controls coming to Android in the future.
